US Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher said on Wednesday that Israeli acting Foreign Minister Israel Katz should apologise for his words about Poles.

Mosbacher, questioned by journalists on Wednesday as to whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should apologise for the words of a member of his government, said that the person who uttered them should apologise. When asked whether Israel Katz should apologise she confirmed, adding that Poland deserves an apology.

Referring to the words earlier attributed by Israeli media to the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu (that the Poles had collaborated with the Nazis in the Holocaust) Katz said that the Israeli prime minister had expressed himself clearly.

"I am a son of Holocaust survivors (...) The memory of the Holocaust is something we cannot compromise about, it is something clear and we won’t forget or forgive. Poles collaborated with the Nazis, and as (Israeli's former prime minister - PAP) Yitzhak Shamir, whose father was murdered by Poles, said, they suckle anti-Semitism with their mother’s milk." (PAP)
