President signs draft banning child adoption by same-sex couple
Polish President Andrzej Duda has signed a draft amendment to the Constitution under which a person in same-sex marriage will not be allowed to adopt a child. He announced that he would submit it to the Sejm (lower house) on Monday.
"I am very happy that I can fulfil my promise which I made on Saturday. But, above all, I am very glad that I have been implementing what I have planned since the beginning of my presidency," Duda said, adding that steps designed to protect Polish families and children had always been his goal.
A draft amendment to the Constitution can be submitted to the Sejm by at least 20 percent of MPs, the Senate or the president. (PAP)
