The Polish foreign minister and the US secretary of state in a telephone conversation have confirmed their will to continue and strengthen bilateral partnership.

"Minister Zbigniew Rau and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a telephone conversation discussed priority fields of cooperation and the current international situation," the Polish Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday.

"The conversation confirmed the will to continue and consolidate bilateral cooperation," the Foreign Ministry wrote.

"The Polish and US top diplomats agreed to continue close dialogue and close bilateral cooperation within international organisations in order to consolidate the transatlantic community," reads a ministry statement.

"We want to have a common response to global challenges and threats, like the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, threats to security and a huge global challenge connected with the rebuilding of our economies."

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Polish foreign minister underlined a common position of the two countries on threats to security, including the one posed by Russia, and expressed his hope for the US commitment to Europe and matters concerning Poland's neighbourhood.

"We have noted that President Biden in a conversation with President Putin has made it clear that the US will be firmly responding to Russia's actions which are harmful to the US or their allies," the ministry went on to say.

The Polish foreign minister said Poland expected the US to continue its policy towards Nord Stream 2.

The Foreign Ministry also reported that Rau and Blinken stated that the governments of Poland and the US "are of the opinion that Nord Stream is a bad solution for Europe and that the diversification of transport routes for energy raw materials should be carried out in a way, which does not pose a threat of an energy blackmail to other allies and partners."

Minister Rau said he was glad that the Three Seas Initiative enjoyed cross-party support of the US Congress and the US Administration.

The Polish foreign minister presented Poland's activities designed to strengthen democratic reform in Ukraine and its Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and emphasised the need for cooperation with the US in this field.

Minister Rau also stated that security and defence were priority fields of cooperation with the US, including a full implementation of the bilateral agreement on the strengthened defence cooperation signed on August 15, 2020, the ministry wrote.

The Polish official said the two countries should deepen their economic cooperation and collaboration in energy security.

The Tuesday conversation was the first held by Minister Rau and the US secretary of state after Antony Blinken had been appointed to the post. (PAP)
