"Thank you to the mayor of Warsaw and our Polish friends, for this essential assistance amidst the energy crisis," Klitschko wrote on the Telegram platform on Tuesday.

He said that some of the power generators, ranging in capacity from 10 to 64 kilowatts, had been immediately transported to regions where residential buildings were left without heating.

Following yet another overnight Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv, around 1,100 buildings in the city are currently without heat.

Last week, the Ukrainian capital also received 130 power generators purchased through fundraising campaigns organised by Polish non-governmental organisations.

As of Tuesday, the fundraiser dubbed "Warmth from Poland for Kyiv" has raised PLN 9.6 million (EUR 2.27 mln) for that purpose.

On January 29, Ukraine received another shipment of power generators supplied by Poland's Government Strategic Reserves Agency (RARS) destined for Kyiv and critical infrastructure facilities. Earlier, the Polish charge d'affaires in Ukraine, Piotr Lukasiewicz, announced that Poland would provide 400 power generators of various types from the government reserves.

According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, after all heating plants in the country were damaged by Russia, most of Ukraine's electricity has been generated by its three nuclear power plants. (PAP)
