Nawrocki says his policy aligns with foreign ministry's on strategic issues
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has highlighted an alignment with the government's foreign policy, when it comes to "fundamental and strategic issues."
Nawrocki, who appears to be in a constant opposition to the coalition government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, made the statement on Thursday as a comment on an annual foreign policy speech delivered by the Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in the Sejm, lower house, earlier that day.
"This is good news for Polish women and men, and for the entire Republic of Poland that in fundamental, strategic, and essential issues, the policies of the President of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are on the same side," he told Polish MPs, adding that this alignment primarily results from the same perception of the threat from Russia.
"It is obvious that we speak with one voice on these issues. These are the greatest, existential threats to Poland, to the entire European order. This was clearly evident in Minister Sikorski's words today, and I repeat it regularly," Nawrocki said.
He also expressed satisfaction with the foreign minister's statement that Russia "is not invincible," and said that he was pleased "that this was clearly expressed today".
He also added that there is "a kind of compatibility between the Presidential Palace, the president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the government" as regards Poland's participation in this year's G20 summit in Miami, hosted by the United States. (PAP)
