Poland, Norway are architects of Baltic Sea security — Polish defence min
Poland's Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz has said that Poland, together with Norway, are "the architects of Baltic Sea security," adding that protecting critical infrastructure was now one of NATO's key priorities amid growing threats from Russia.
He made the statement at a conference, held in the coastal town of Slupsk, on Thursday, dedicated to the "Green Industrial District" project, in the northern region of Kaszuby.
He also spoke about the increasing risk of sabotage, citing incidents such as the cutting of undersea cables, GPS jamming and frequent airspace violations by Russian drones and aircraft over NATO member states, including Poland.
"This is always an element of hybrid warfare... it shows the dangerous times we live in and the need to build a new security architecture for the Baltic Sea," Kosiniak-Kamysz continued.
"Together with Norway, we are its architects," he added.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also said that the Polish parliament was debating the bill on security on the Baltic Sea, which aims to streamline the work of the military and Border Guard in Poland’s exclusive economic zone. He urged the EU and NATO to act more swiftly, saying that bureaucracy must not undermine security or economic stability. (PAP)
