Poland is Ukraine's trustworthy partner, says lower house official
A deputy speaker of the Polish Sejm, lower house, has declared in Lviv that Poland has been and will remain a reliable supporter of Ukraine fighting against Russia.
Monika Wielichowska made the statement during the 14th Poland-Ukraine Parliamentary Assembly in Lviv on Thursday.
"We are discussing military and social support for Ukraine," she said, adding that Poland would also be a perfect hub for the future rebuilding of Ukraine.
"We are aware of the fact that Ukraine has been fighting not only for its own freedom and independence but also for the freedom and independence of Poland and all Europe," she said, adding that Poland's voice on this matter was being heard by Europe and the coalition of the willing.
"Poland has been constantly supporting Ukraine's EU bid," Wielichowska said, admitting that its EU membership was impossible now as it required unity in the EU.
"We must work on this unity and make Hungary finally join us," she said.
Referring to peace negotiations, she said that nothing should be done behind Ukraine's back or over its head. "Ukraine must be the leading voice on what a ceasefire and end of the war would look like," she concluded.
The Poland-Ukraine Parliamentary Assembly was established in 2003 to develop cooperation between parliaments of the two countries and to coordinate their positions and strategic interests. Its previous meeting was held in Warsaw in 2024. (PAP)
