Polish team gearing up for Winter Olympics
The Polish team consists of 60 athletes, including 32 women and 28 men, who have been training for the XXV Winter Olympic Games set to take place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, beginning next Friday.
On Monday, the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) approved the final line-up of the Polish representation for this year's Winter Olympics.
President Karol Nawrocki attended the oath-taking ceremony for the team members at the PKOl headquarters in Warsaw on Friday.
"I would like to thank all athletes for the shared joy and hope that you provide," Nawrocki said. "This joy is so important for our entire nation. We are also convinced that you are exceptional."
Expressing hope for a successful performance, the president also acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing the team.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm a realist," he said. "We understand that winning a medal at the Olympic Games is a great honour and requires tremendous effort. I am confident that you will bring home medals, and I wish this for you from the bottom of my heart. As the President of Poland, I am proud of you."
This year's Winter Olympics will run from February 6 to February 22. (PAP)
