Tusk elected Civic Coalition leader
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has been elected leader of Poland's centrist ruling party, the Civic Coalition (KO), winning an overwhelming majority of votes, the party's election commissioner has announced.
The turnout was 78 percent, Dorota Niedziela said on Monday, announcing the results of Sunday's ballot for the KO leader and the heads of the coalition's regional structures.
"The total number of valid votes cast for the candidate for the chairmanship of the coalition was 16,695, with 16,316 valid votes in favour of the candidate," Niedziela reported. "The number of valid votes against the candidate was 379, which means that 97 percent of the valid votes were in favour of the candidate," she said.
Tusk was the sole candidate for the party's leadership.
Although Tusk had already been heading the KO, the party was required to formally elect a new leader after it merged in October 2025 with two smaller partners, Nowoczesna and Inicjatywa Polska, both previously members of the KO parliamentary caucus. (PAP)
