Tusk welcomes Hungarian Prime Minister in Warsaw
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has welcomed his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Magyar, to Warsaw as the Hungarian leader continued his three-day visit to Poland, his first foreign trip since taking office.
Tusk and Magyar met for a one-on-one conversation on Wednesday morning to talk on security and defence as well as relations with the European Union.
After beginning his Polish visit on Tuesday, Magyar announced that he would aim to strengthen ties with Poland and refresh cooperation within the V4 international cooperation platform, which comprises Poland, Hungary, Czechia, and Slovakia.
The prime ministers' meeting will be followed by discussions with the Hungarian delegation, including Foreign Minister Anita Orban, Minister for Social Relations and Culture Zoltan Tarr, and Transport and Investment Minister David Vitezy, Economy and Energy Minister Istvan Kapitany and Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi.
Adam Szlapka, the Polish government spokesperson, told a press conference on Tuesday that Poland would be represented by the ministers of finance, interior, culture and infrastructure, as well as representatives of the security services.
The discussions will be followed by a joint press conference.
Later in the day, Magyar is expected to meet Polish President Karol Nawrocki, along with the speakers of parliament's two chambers — Sejm Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty and Senate Speaker Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska.
Afterwards, Tusk and Magyar will travel to the northern city of Gdansk to meet with Lech Walesa, the former Polish president and leader of the Solidarity anti-communist movement.
After completing his visit to Poland, Magyar will travel to Vienna before returning to Budapest by train. (PAP)
