Warsaw mayor announces night-time alcohol ban from June 2026
Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski announced on Thursday that he and the Warsaw City Council have agreed to implement a city-wide night-time prohibition starting next June, meaning no alcohol can be bought at grocery stores or gas stations overnight.
"We have... agreed that from June 1, 2026, restrictions on the night-time sale of alcohol will apply throughout Warsaw. I will submit a resolution on this matter to the Council in the spring of next year," he announced, adding that the Warsaw City Council is due to gather next week.
He added that the attendees will decide on whether to introduce the measure in test-mode in two out of 18 Warsaw districts — the capital's centre and Praga-Polnoc.
If introduced, the ban on selling alcoholic beverages would likely start late at night and last until 6am, with the exact start time yet to be agreed.
The topic has become a point of political dispute in Warsaw after an earlier failed attempt to implement the measure city-wide. The interim implementation of the night-time alcohol ban was the solution that the local government proposed instead. (PAP)
