Warsaw police arrests Ukrainians with hacking equipment
Warsaw police has detained three Ukrainian nationals after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of hacking and spying equipment in their vehicle.
The three men, aged 43, 42 and 39, who were stopped by police on Monday, claimed they "were travelling around Europe," had entered Poland a few hours prior, and were en route to Lithuania, reported Kacper Wojteczko, the police spokesman.
The police searched the vehicle and seized devices capable of interfering with the country's strategic IT systems and telecommunications networks. The items included a spy device detector, advanced hacking equipment, antennas, laptops, a large number of SIM cards, routers, portable hard drives, and cameras. However, the individuals were unable to explain their purpose.
"They claimed to be IT specialists, but when asked more specific questions, they forgot their English and pretended not to understand what was being said to them," Wojteczko said.
The men were charged with fraud, computer fraud, and the acquisition of computer equipment and software adapted for committing crimes. They remain in a three-month pre-trial detention. (PAP)
