According to the statement released by the PZPN on Thursday, the 52-year-old Probierz, who had been in the role since September 20, 2023, was quoted as saying: "I have come to the conclusion that, given the current circumstances, the best decision for the benefit of the national team is my resignation from the position of head coach."

Probierz led the national team in 21 matches. His record included nine victories, five draws and seven losses.

On Tuesday, the Polish team lost to Finland in Helsinki by a score of 2-1 during a World Cup qualifying match. The match was preceded by a controversial decision of the coach to strip star striker Robert Lewandowski of the team's captaincy, which led Lewandowski to announce his resignation from the national team until Probierz is no longer the coach.
