Polish president compares Russian troops to Nazi SS
Andrzej Duda, the Polish president, has compared the behaviour of Russian forces in Ukraine and its leaders to those of the infamous SS and Hitler.
Speaking after a meeting with Rumen Radev, his Bulgarian counterpart, in Sofia, Duda expressed hope that those responsible for attacks on civilians in Ukraine would be brought before international tribunals.
"I deeply believe that the world will be able to bring to account the perpetrators of these crimes in order to discourage other potential leaders and commanders who want to carry out their criminal goals," Duda added.
In a stinging attack on Russian conduct in the war Moscow is waging against Ukraine, the Polish president drew parallels with the behaviour of German forces during the Second World War.
"Today, the Russian army is behaving in exactly the same way — and its leaders like Hitler — as the German SS," he said.
Duda also pointed out that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was not the first brutal violation of international law committed by that country. "It had already done this in 2008 when it attacked Georgia, later, in 2014, when it attacked Ukraine, and today, when it carried out a brutal invasion of Ukraine," the Polish president stated.
"(Russia - PAP) has been acting in a completely unacceptable way which demands sanctions be imposed by the international community," Duda said. (PAP)
