Ruling party leader lauds successes of government
Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) and deputy prime minister has enumerated the achievements of the government at the party's Saturday congress in Marki, a suburb of Warsaw.
"Today, the state budget revenues are PLN 205.7 billion (44.8 billion - PAP) higher than in 2015 (when PiS took over power - PAP), and the revenues of the entire public finance sector have increased by PLN 406 billion (EUR 88.4 billion - PAP), he told the congress.
Kaczynski said that "this success" has opened the way to undertaking changes "in many areas of life," including the most "radical" in social policy.
He pointed out that government spending on the family, mainly on children, increased by PLN 200 billion (EUR 43.6 billion) since 2015 and by PLN 62 billion (EUR 13.5 billion) in 2022 alone.
According to Kaczynski, there has also been a "tremendous increase in spending with senior citizens in mind."
Among the other successes of the government, the PiS leader mentioned a 36-percent increase in spending on education and an "almost similar" hike in wages.
Speaking about spending on healthcare, Kaczynski said that, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, estimates show that in 2022 it will increase to PLN 160 billion (EUR 34.8 billion) as compared to PLN 77 billion (EUR 16.8 billion) in 2015.
"This is a really gigantic increase and, in 2024, it will be 6 percent of GDP and, in 2027, will reach 7 percent," he added.
Additional achievements under PiS rule listed by Kaczynski, include a 70-percent growth in defence spending, to PLN 57 billion (EUR 12.4 billion) this year, and the planned over PLN 96 billion (EUR 20.9 billion) next year.
He also said that the government funding for the judiciary and employee policy had also increased.
According to Kaczynski, the "appropriate steps" taken by the PiS government "have brought results" in financial administration and criminal law procedures.
He also mentioned the Central Transportation Hub (CPK), a massive investment project initiated under PiS which, Kaczynski believes, will "place Poland at the centre of Europe."
Consisting primarily of a brand-new international airport, CPK will also serve as a transit hub for the integration of air, rail and road traffic between Warsaw and the central city of Lodz.
Another huge investment project authored by PiS and lauded by Kaczynski as vital for Poland's "territorial integrity and national dignity" is a new canal that will cut across the Vistula Spit, allowing Polish ships to reach the Baltic without having to pass through Russian-controlled waters.
The PiS convention, on Saturday, is to inaugurate a summer campaign of meetings between party politicians and voters. PiS leadership, including Kaczynski and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, are set to start a tour around Poland. (PAP)
