IBM, the business and computer giant, reported late 20 January 2015 a sharp drop in fourth-quarter net income, which fell 11.3 per cent to 5.48 billion dollars, compared to the same period in 2013. Revenues were down by 12 per cent from a year before to 24.1 billion dollars. Hardest hit was the hardware branch, with a drop of 39 per cent in revenue. Sales were also hard hit by the strong dollar, which undercut foreign sales, and the off-loading of less profitable branches - part of the restructuring being led by IBM chief Virginia Rometty. IBM Studios are centres where the company's specialists and experts from different fields work with local clients on developing digital solutions.
The centres have their individual specialisations - the one to be set up in Warsaw will focus on convenience of using mobile and online applications as well as interdisciplinary projects enabling clients to transition to a digital business.
The Polish centre is to open by the end of 2015. (PAP)
