President Duda signs 13th pension bill into law

President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday in Zyrardow, central Poland, signed into law the so-called thirteenth pension, an extra one-off yearly payment for retirees and pensioners.

In accordance with the law on the thirteenth pension payment, the amount paid out to individuals will be the equivalent of the lowest monthly pension payment on March 1 of the year in which the payment is made. In 2020, it will be PLN 1,200 (ca. EUR 280) gross.

The additional pension payment will be financed with money from the Solidarity Fund and the state budget. 

Explaining his decision to sign the bill, President Duda said that the point was to properly secure every generation. "We have been implementing what is important in every law-abiding state, which wants to shape its economy on the foundation of social market economy," he noted, adding that the state economy must be based on a just division of goods.
