Polish PM vists Romania, meets PM Ciolos
Poland’s Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, on a visit to Romania on Saturday, met with her counterpart Dacian Ciolos. Later in the day, PM Szydlo will meet with Poles living in Romania.
PM Szydlo went to the north-eastern city of Suceava at the invitation of the Romanian prime minister. The main topic of her talks with PM Ciolos is the future of the EU after the Brexit vote in Britain. The two are also expected to discuss preparations for a European Union summit in Bratislava, Slovakia.
"During their meeting the two heads of government will focus on issues related to the future of the EU and on plans for reforming the bloc, government spokesman Rafal Bochenek told PAP. The officials will also discuss the situation in Turkey and that country’s cooperation with the EU, according to Bochenek.
The Polish and Romanian prime ministers will also talk about the safety of Europeans in the context of a recent series of terrorist attacks in Western Europe, Bochenek said.
At 1330 hrs the two prime ministers will hold a press conference.
PM Szydlo will also visit a monastery in Voronet and meet with members of the Polish minority in the locality of Solonetu Nou.
According to the Association of Poles in Romania, about 7,000 individuals of Polish origin live in that country though 2002 census data put the figure at no more 3,600, up from 2,600 in 2011. (PAP)
