Warsaw-bound plane lands in Prague under bomb alert
A Boeing 737 underway from Las Palmas to Warsaw with mostly Poles on board Friday made an emergency landing in the Czech capital Prague after one of the passengers declared to be carrying a bomb.
After the landing at Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport the machine's 162 passengers, predominantly Poles, and 6-man crew were safely evacuated. The plane's operator, the Polish Enter Air airline, assured it would provide the passengers with another plane.
Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec told the CT24 news channel that the alarm was caused by a Pole, who was arrested by Czech police. Chovanec declined to say if explosives were found on the man and refused to comment on his possible motives. He informed that the Pole appeared to be sober.
Chovanec said the plane would have to be thoroughly checked before it was allowed to leave Prague. (PAP)
