The Silesia Financial Company has sold the Szczecin Shipyard to the Mars Investment Fund for PLN 100 million, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Waterways Marek Grobarczyk announced on Monday.
"Thanks to the government's efforts, the contract has been finalised. Silesia has sold the Szczecin Shipyard to the Mars Investment Fund which is now the biggest fund investing in the shipyard industry in Europe," Minister Grobarczyk told a local branch of Polish public radio.
The sale contract of the financially troubled shipyard was signed on Friday. The facility will focus on building ferries.
"Our main goal is to restore the shipyard's production potential," the minister said, stressing that the restructuring process would be divided into subsequent stages depending on the facility's orders and related revenues. (PAP)
