PM dismisses deputy provincial governor
Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, has dismissed the second deputy provincial governor of Lower Silesia owing to a number of inappropriate comments he posted on social media.
The news of Jacek Protasiewicz's sacking was announced by the Government Information Centre on Monday.
Protasiewicz is also a vice president of the Union of European Democrats, associated with the Polish People's Party (PSL), a grouping forming the governing coalition.
On Sunday, he posted a series of insulting and confusing posts on the X platform aimed at his political opponents, journalists as well as random users.
He later apologised, citing "health issues," but this failed to prevent his sacking.
The PSL and the provincial governor of Lower Silesia have already distanced themselves from Protasiewicz's "controversial comments."
Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, the leader of PSL, said that Protasiewicz's posts "are unacceptable, and we do not identify with them in any way."
Maciej Awizen, the Lower Silesian governor, added that a person holding such a post must have a unblemished reputation and the ability to be a deputy governor.
"With his entries on the X platform, Jacek Protasiewicz has shown that this is not the place he should occupy," he added. (PAP)
