Poland gets USD 4 bln loan guarantee from US gov't for army modernisation
Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on Friday signed an agreement with the US granting Poland a loan guarantee for USD 4 billion on the modernisation of the Polish army.
The loan guarantee given by the United States will be issued under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme. It will secure payments for Poland's contracts previously signed with the US for military equipment.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the agreement is a confirmation of an alliance between Poland and the United States that is the strongest it has ever been. "We are ready to allocate this money as best as possible for the transformation of the Polish army and to strengthen Poland's security."
He said that Poland is "a good example for other countries in Europe when it comes to spending money on security" and added that the country is building "a strong army that's ready for the most recent challenges."
Foreign Military Financing is the United States' State Department programme that provides loans and grants to US allies and partners for the purchase of American military equipment. In April 2025, as part of an aid package for Ukraine, the US Congress increased the funds available under the FMF for NATO allies to USD 6.7 billion. (PAP)mj/jd
