Poland rolls out pilot defence training programme

Poland's Ministry of Defence has announced the launch of a pilot programme aimed at voluntary defence training for citizens, set to begin at the end of November, the defence minister has announced.

Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz revealed on Thursday that the "wGotowosci" (On Standby) programme will kick off on November 22. The initiative will feature a mix of individual and group exercises designed for citizens of all ages, from schoolchildren and working adults to seniors.

"Knowledge, awareness, the ability to respond appropriately, and understanding signals, signs, alarms and hiding spots are very much needed," the minister said. "This may not always be military activity, but it significantly contributes to both national defence and social resilience."

Monetary Policy Council cuts Polish interest rates by 25 basis points

Adults interested in participating can register for the programme via the mObywatel government app. The pilot phase will be carried out by 132 military units and aims to train approximately 20,000 people by the end of the year. A full rollout of the programme is planned for early 2026.

Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk added that next year, the Polish armed forces plan to train a total of 400,000 citizens through various military training courses. (PAP)
