Tusk made the announcement at a press conference accompanying an event organised by the Civic Coalition (KO), a new party formed at a political convention a day earlier through a merger of three parties of Poland's ruling coalition grouping, the Civic Platform (PO), Nowoczesna and Polish Initiative.

He told reporters that the decision to establish such a centre was made on Sunday following a panel discussion between politicians and experts held on the second day of the KO's national convention and regarding the Polish presence in space and the opportunities related to it.

"We have brilliant people. Poland is becoming a regional leader. We also have the resources at our disposal to establish a Satellite Operations Centre coordinating activities and providing synergies for all those who... know how to utilise our satellite capabilities, in Poland as soon as possible," Tusk said.

He added that owing to the presence of the Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański, the decision "did not require many hours of deliberation, and yes, it was made today."

"A Satellite Operations Centre will be established in Poland," Tusk declared. (PAP)
