Poland's ruling party leads in June election poll

If parliamentary elections were held in late June in Poland, the ruling centrist Civic Coalition (KO) would place first, ahead of the socially conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party and the far-right Confederation, according to a new poll.

According to the survey conducted by the Pollster research institute and published by the Super Express daily on Wednesday, KO would win 34.01 percent of the vote, PiS would come second with 26.17 percent, while the Confederation would secure 13.93 percent.

The poll indicates that two other parties would clear the electoral threshold and enter parliament: the New Left, with 7.82 percent support, and the far-right Confederation of the Polish Crown, led by Grzegorz Braun, with 7.66 percent.

Parties that would fail to win seats in the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, include the left-wing Together party on 4.58 percent, the agrarian Polish People’s Party (PSL) on 3.55 percent, and the centre-right Poland 2050 party on 1.61 percent.

Only 0.67 percent of respondents said they would vote for another political grouping.

The study was carried out between June 19 and 21 among a sample of 1,045 adult Poles. (PAP)
