Police have evidence that murder suspect is still hiding in forest in Gdynia
Law enforcement agencies have possible evidence that a sailor suspected of killing his six-year-old son on Friday may still be hiding in a forest between two districts in the coastal city of Gdynia, PAP has learned.
Police believe that Grzegorz Borys, 44, who is wanted in the connection with the death of his son in an attack which took place on Friday morning in a flat in Gdynia's Fikakowo district, is still alive and holed up in the forest.
PAP has received unofficial information that officers taking part in the manhunt saw a human figure in the forest, who then "disappeared from sight."
On another occasion a helicopter searching the forest saw a human figure, which suddenly disappeared from its thermal imaging camera, "as if it had sunk into the ground," said an officer involved in the search.
The area has many potential hiding places that could be used by the suspect. They include trenches dug in the forest during World War Two that stretch for several kilometers.
There are also many allotment gardens adjacent to the forest areas which are usually abandoned in late autumn and can also be used as hiding places.
Police have appealed to the public to stay out of the forest.
Military Police, the Forest Service and firefighters are supporting police in the manhunt, which is now in its sixth day. (PAP)
