Named after one of Poland's most celebrated reporters, the awards were established in 2010 and are granted annually, following a several-year break, in four main categories: text, audio, video and photography.

"We have recognised those who over the past year have done great, important work, following in the footsteps of our patron, Ryszard Kapuscinski," the head of PAP, Marek Blonski, said during the awards ceremony the Polski Theatre in Warsaw on Monday evening.

Tatiana Kolesnychenko won the award for best journalistic text for "Wladcy cial" (Lords of the Bodies), a reportage published by Wirtualna Polska documenting extreme sexual violence committed by Russian forces against Ukrainian women.

The best audio report award went to Anna Dudzinska for her six-part series published by Fundacja Pismo telling the story of northern Europe's indigenous people, the Sami, also known as Lapps, a term regarded as offensive.

Wojciech Grzedzinski received the photography award for "Eliminacje" (Eliminations), a photo reportage capturing the emotional struggles of artists during the qualification rounds of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition.

Michal Przedlacki was honoured for best video reporting for his work "Zolnierki Ukrainy" (Female Soldiers of Ukraine), which aired on the private network TVN as part of the regular "Superwizjer" television programme. Przedlacki narrates the experiences of three women among the approximately 45,000 females presently serving in the Ukrainian military.

A special award for excellence in international journalism went to radio journalist Dariusz Rosiak for "Raport o stanie swiata" (Report on the State of the World), recognised for its insightful and empathetic analysis of global affairs.

The jury was chaired by PAP Editor-in-Chief Wojciech Tumidalski with Kapuscinski's daughter, Rene Maisner, and his longtime friend, Miroslaw Ikonowicz, a PAP journalist since 1953, serving as the honorary chairs. Other jurors included: Zuzanna Dabrowska, Boguslaw Chrabota, Jaroslaw Gugala, Andrzej Grygiel, Karolina Lewicka, Wojciech Jagielski, Beata Lubecka, Cezary Lazarewicz, Maciej Nabrdalik, Mateusz Sosnowski, Agnieszka Szydlowska, Beata Zawrzel and Michal Zakowski.
