Probable missile debris found in eastern Poland after drone incursion

The remains of what are most likely a Polish missile that was launched to shoot down a Russian drone were found in the eastern village of Choiny, the military police announced on Friday morning.

Overnight from September 9 to 10, Russian drones repeatedly violated Polish airspace during a major aerial attack on Ukraine, which Warsaw described as a provocation. The incident prompted Poland and its NATO allies to scramble fighter jets, and Poland said that the drones posing a direct threat were shot down that night.

Damian Stanula, the spokesperson for the military police, said the debris was found in a field on Thursday night, away from residential buildings in Choiny, Lubelskie province.

"Everything suggests that these are the remains of a rocket, most likely Polish," he said. "An examination and investigation are currently underway."

On Wednesday, the government confirmed that a similar missile, fired during the airspace violation, was likely responsible for the damage to a residence in the village of Wyryki, also in eastern Poland. (PAP)
