Black ice wreaks havoc across Poland
The easing frost and rising temperatures led to the appearance of black ice in various parts of Poland, causing train delays, school closures and numerous road collisions and accidents across the country.
Poland's weather institute IMGW has issued warnings for 13 out of the country's 16 provinces on Monday morning.
In the most-affected western Wielkopolskie and north-western Zachodniopomorskie provinces hundreds of schools cancelled their classes.
In the latter province, police reported 105 road collisions and accidents.
Difficult weather conditions and ice accumulated on overhead contact lines caused delays and cancellations of a number of train services in Poland.
High winds and heavy snowfall also halted the departure of the Ystad ferry from Sweden to Poland.
The extreme weather caused chaos on roads and railways in Germany as well. School classes were cancelled in northern regions of the country. (PAP)
