Head of CIA on secret visit to Poland for talks with gov't ministers
Director of the US's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Ratcliffe is said to have come to Poland to meet Polish ministers responsible for defence and security for confidential talks, PAP has confirmed.
According to unofficial reports, Ratcliffe came to Poland earlier in the week. Private broadcaster RMF24, citing sources in Washington, said on Friday that during his visit, Ratcliffe met with Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz and Special Services Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak.
PAP confirmed the news with sources within the Polish defence ministry who said that the topics of the discussion remain undisclosed.
On Friday evening, Siemoniak confirmed on X that the meeting took place. "In recent days in Warsaw, we met with the CIA Director John Ratcliffe," Siemoniak wrote. "We discussed security issues in Europe and the world and emphasised the very good allied cooperation between the special services of Poland and the USA."
He also added that Ratcliffe had talked with the Polish defence minister.
Ratcliffe was appointed director of the CIA on January 23, 2025, shortly after Donald Trump took office as US president. During Trump's first presidency, Ratcliffe served as the director of national intelligence from 2020 to 2021. (PAP)
