Orban accuses Polish government of 'war psychosis'

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused the Polish government of being gripped by “war psychosis,” following comments by Poland’s foreign minister, who expressed hope that Ukraine would destroy the oil pipeline linking Russia and Hungary.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Orban said that the Polish government, under the influence of "war psychosis," wanted to destroy the thousand-year-old Polish-Hungarian friendship by supporting the destruction of the Druzhba oil pipeline — similar, he added, to what happened to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

"This is the darkest depth of war hysteria," Balazs Orban from the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office wrote on the X platform.

On Wednesday, during a heated exchange with his Hungarian counterpart on X, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote that he was "proud of the Polish court which ruled that sabotaging an invader is no crime." His comment referred to a Polish court's decision rejecting Germany's request to extradite Volodymyr Zhuravlov, a Ukrainian accused of involvement in the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the Baltic Sea.

"Moreover, I hope your brave compatriot, Major 'Magyar,' finally succeeds in knocking out the oil pipeline that feeds Putin's war machine and you get your oil via Croatia," Sikorski added.

Budapest imposed a three-year entry ban to Hungary and the Schengen Area for Robert 'Magyar' Brovdi, a Ukrainian of ethnic Hungarian background and commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces. The move followed three Ukrainian drone strikes on the Druzhba pipeline on Russian territory in August. (PAP)
