"The motion will be voted during a meeting of the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament on Thursday," Andrzej Halicki, an MEP of Poland's ruling Civic Coalition (KO) told PAP on Tuesday.

Halicki voiced hope that the motion would be adopted since it had met with broad support in the EP. A debate and a vote can be expected during an EP session in Strasbourg next week.

According to Halicki, the draft resolution will include an appeal to EU member states to launch joint actions against the Russian hybrid war against the EU, and a call to strengthen Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

Later in the day, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group, with Poland's main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party being a member, also filed a motion to hold a debate and adopt a resolution on the acts of rail sabotage.

"It seems that these are further Russia's actions which not only hit Poland but also threaten the entire European Union. It is in Poland's interest to show that our region is exposed to constant destabilisation from Russia and therefore needs more funds," Patryk Jaki, a PiS MEP and ECR co-chair told PAP.The Conference of Presidents is one of the most important EP decision-making bodies which is comprised of the EP president and the chairs of all political groups.

On Saturday, an explosion destroyed a railway track on the route between central Warsaw and the eastern city of Lublin, near the Mika railway station of Garwolin County. Later, near the town of Golab, Pulawy County, a damaged line caused a train carrying 475 passengers to suddenly stop.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday that the Polish security services had identified two Ukrainian nationals acting on behalf of Russia involved in two rail sabotage acts.

After the operation, they fled Poland and crossed into Belarus.(PAP)
