Poland, Denmark start joint military drill on Bornholm
Danish and Polish soldiers have begun the joint "Baltic Shield" exercise, practising the defence of Bornholm Island, the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces has reported.
"Poland and Denmark are launching some of the largest military exercises in the Baltic Sea region," the command wrote on Friday.
The exercise scheduled for May 8-14, will cover training "on land, sea and air, both on the ground at Bornholm and in the surrounding waters and skies... to the northern shores of Poland," the Danish armed Forces earlier stated.
According to the Polish Armed Forces, troops of all types, including artillerymen, sailors, pilots, special forces, the 6th Airborne Brigade and the 2nd Reconnaissance Regiment, will practice deterring various threats of physical and hybrid nature in Bornholm.
Last year, the Danish government announced plans to increase from 200 to 500-900 troops deployed on the island, which is located 400 km from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. (PAP)
