Poland's Gaz-System to auction gas export capacity to Ukraine
Poland's gas grid operator Gaz-System will hold an incremental capacity auction on July 6 to gauge market demand for increased gas transmission to Ukraine, following approval from the national energy regulator (URE), Gaz-System said in a statement on Tuesday.
The decision, made by the URE president on April 30, greenlights the project for the Poland-Ukraine border, according to the statement. The move concludes a joint application process between Gaz-System and Ukraine's LLC Gas Transmission System Operator (GTSOU), it added.
"The incremental procedure remains a key tool for us to verify genuine long-term demand for transmission services," Gaz-System CEO Slawomir Hinc said, as cited in the statement. "Expanding export capacities toward Ukraine requires additional infrastructure investments, which can only be undertaken based on binding market commitments," he added.
Two capacity offer levels will be available. Level 1: 3,095,890 kWh/h for gas years 2030/2031 through 2044/2045, and Level 2: 4,520,000 kWh/h for gas years 2032/2033 through 2046/2047.
According to Gaz-System, the project was developed in response to earlier non-binding expressions of interest in capacity at the GCP GAZ-SYSTEM/UA TSO interconnection point, a strategic hub on the Polish-Ukrainian border linking the high-pressure gas networks of both nations into a single commercial gateway.
