Russia carried out a massive aerial strike on Kyiv during the night from Thursday to Friday, targeting railway infrastructure and residential buildings, among other facilities. At least 23 people have been injured.

Sikorski wrote on the X platform on Friday morning that "a building of the consular department of our embassy has been damaged."

"I have just talked to (Polish - PAP) Ambassador (Piotr - PAP) Lukasiewicz. Everyone is fine," he wrote.

Sikorski also said that "Ukraine needs aerial defence equipment."

Washington has recently announced that it is trimming down military support for Ukraine. The reduction may include the surface-to-air Patriot missiles, people familiar with the decision told the Reuters news agency.

In a statement sent to PAP later on Friday, the Polish embassy in Kyiv said: "During initial inspection it was assessed that the roof and the facade of the building had been damaged. The exact scale of damage is now being analysed, but all indications are that the damage is not significant.

"The damage was most likely caused by a Russian drone or its debris," the embassy quoted Lukasiewicz as saying.

The embassy confirmed that no-one had been injured in the incident. (PAP)
