Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, a deputy chief of Russia's military intelligence agency GRU, was shot and seriously wounded in Moscow on Friday.

Russian security services reported on Sunday that a Russian citizen born in Ukraine, Lyubomir Korba, had been extradited to Moscow from Dubai on suspicion of shooting Alexeyev. The FSB said that Korba and his alleged accomplice, who had been detained in Moscow, confessed to conducting the attack on behalf of the Ukrainian security service (SBU).

According to the Russians, says Reuters, the SBU recruited Korba in 2025 in western Ukraine, with the involvement of Polish intelligence.

Reuters said that the FSB did not provide any evidence to prove its claims. On Saturday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha denied Kyiv had anything to do with the attempted assassination. (PAP)
