Tusk to deliver 'urgent' state-security information in lower house
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that he will present “urgent” state-security information in the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, on Friday, adding that he has asked the Sejm speaker to classify his address.
On that day, voting is scheduled in the lower house, including on amendments to the next year's budget bill.
"I have approached (Sejm - PAP) Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty with a request to designate the first Friday point of the Sejm session as secret, during which I will present urgent information concerning national security," the prime minister wrote in a post on X on Thursday.
Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz commented on Tusk's announcement when speaking to reporters on Thursday, assuring that the address was nothing to be afraid of but to be treated with respect and attention.
"I reckon the issue is not linked to the military situation," the minister said, adding that information would concern security "in a very practical way." He added that he was leaving the matter to the prime minister, "as it is his briefing to deliver."
Polish security services have long remained on high alert amid a rise in Russia-engineered security incidents in Poland and beyond, and warned of growing Russian activity in the region.
In September, the Kremlin's drones repeatedly breached the Polish skies, with a series of other security incidents taking place in other European states in the following days.
Despite broad international condemnation for such acts, Moscow went on, orchestrating the rail blasts in Poland in mid-November, with Warsaw describing the acts as sabotage at an "unprecedented" level. (PAP)
