Dozens of Polish doctors probed over vaccine misinformation
The trial of 45 doctors accused of spreading false information about vaccines during the COVID-19 epidemic started on Wednesday under charges filed by a professional liability advocate.
If proven guilty, the doctors may lose the right to continue working in the medical profession.
The charges have been filed for close to 100 people who, during the pandemic, were associated under the name of 'Polish Association of Independent Doctors and Scientists,' Pawel Wroblewski, head of the Lower Silesian Medical Chamber, said on Wednesday.
"They signed the so-called 'Letter of the hundred,' which spread false claims about the vaccine test results as well as the whole pandemic fight strategy," Wroblewski said.
He added that some doctors had withdrawn their signatures, but the "majority who signed it were charged."
The trials will commence in the southwestern city of Wroclaw, the western city of Poznan, and the northern city of Gdansk.
According to the liability advocate, the actions of signatories were to the detriment of the patients and society at large. (PAP)
