Janina Kedzierska from the local police told PAP that Artur Sekowski of the BMW car died at the scene, while his teammate has been evacuated from the burning vehicle and hospitalised in grave condition.

The organisers decided to end the race in light of the tragedy. The prosecutorial investigation is ongoing.

Sunday's tragedy marked the second accident during this year's competition. On Saturday, a car ploughed into two journalists standing in the hazardous area, despite the warnings.

The Nysa Rally is a part of the Polish Rally Championship and Historic Polish Rally Championship. (PAP)
