On Tuesday, the government selected Serafin on the recommendation of Minister for European Union Affairs Adam Szlapka.

EC chief Ursula von der Leyen expects member states to submit their candidates by the end of August. It’s her, who will decide on the distribution of posts. The candidates will then have to win the approval of MEPs at hearings in the European Parliament. The EC in its new composition will finally be approved by the chamber through a vote.

From 2014 to 2019, Serafin was the head of Tusk’s office, while Tusk was the president of the EC.

Prior to that, from 2012 to 2014, he held the position of secretary of state for European affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (PAP)
