EU must boost drone defences, Polish ministers say
The EU must urgently improve its drone defences, Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski and Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak said after a migration meeting in Munich on Saturday.
On Saturday, the two ministers attended the Munich Migration Meeting, which was devoted to handling migration problems in Europe, including better protection of the bloc's borders against irregular migrants.
But at a press conference after the get-together, Kierwinski and Siemoniak also reiterated the need to boost European drone defences.
"We must very urgently discuss the issues of defending critical infrastructure against drone attacks," Siemoniak said, giving the example of arms factories.
In this context, Siemoniak recalled Prime Minister Donald Tusk's recent appeal to European leaders to build a "drone wall."
"A drone can fly in from any direction, it can function and operate in the middle of the European Union," Kierwinski added.
Kierwinski went on to say that 'a drone wall' at the bloc's borders would not be enough and that a broader system of detection and protection against drones was needed. (PAP)
