European Space Agency picks Warsaw as site of its Polish branch
The European Space Agency (ESA) has selected Warsaw as the headquarters of its space security branch, the ESA head announced on Monday.
"The aim was to establish an ESA Centre in Poland, which would work to support Polish industry and defence," ESA CEO Josef Aschbacher announced at the press conference in Warsaw.
The Polish centre will be the first ESA centre outside the countries that signed the convention establishing the agency in 1975.
In November 2025, Warsaw and ESA signed a letter of intent regarding the new branch at the meeting of the European Space Agency's Ministerial Council in Bremen, Germany. During the gathering, Poland undertook to allocate a total of EUR 731 million to the implementation of ESA missions, including nearly EUR 550 million for ESA's optional programmes for the years 2026–2028.
