Fatal crash driver to face Polish justice, FM says
Sebastian M. who fled to Dubai after causing a fatal crash in which a whole family was killed, will be extradited to Poland, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said.
Sikorski made the announcement early on Wednesday afternoon, after the United Arab Emirates' Supreme Court rejected Sebastian M.'s appeal against January's decision by the first instance court in Dubai that opened the way for his extradition to Poland.
"The speeder who fled to Dubai will face the Polish justice system," Sikorski said on Wednesday.
Polish Justice Minister Adam Bodnar confirmed the news, adding that "The final decision now belongs to the UAE Justice Minister, who will decide about the potential transfer of Sebastian M. to Polish authorities."
Sebastian M., whose surname as a suspect must be withheld under Polish privacy laws, fled Poland soon after allegedly causing the accident that killed a family of three, including a five-year-old boy in September 2023. He was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice but managed to leave Europe.
Later that year, UAE police, supported by a Polish search team, detained Sebastian M. in Dubai and Polish prosecutors applied to the country for his extradition. (PAP)
