Fatal crash suspect detained in UAE, says Polish interior minister
Sebastian M., suspected of causing a fatal crash that killed a family of three, has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates and awaits extradition, the Polish interior minister has announced.
"Sebastian M. detained in the United Arab Emirates! Good work by the Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!" Tomasz Siemoniak wrote on the X platform on Saturday.
The suspect, arrested on Friday, will soon be extradited to Poland and face charges, the Polish Police reported.
"Anyone who is hiding in a foreign country from Polish justice will sooner or later end up in our hands," Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the X.
In September 2023, a crash near Piotrkow Trybunalski killed a couple and their five-year-old son. Sebastian M., allegedly driving a BMW that caused the accident, fled Europe shortly after.
He was later detained in Dubai by UAE police, supported by a Polish search team. Though released on bail and reported to have obtained a UAE golden visa, Polish prosecutors formally requested his extradition, which the UAE courts ultimately approved. (PAP)
