Fentanyl dealer detained by Polish police

The dealer, known as "the Zuromin ghost", was apprehended by officers from Radom, central-eastern Poland, the spokesperson of the Police Headquarters (KGP) told PAP.

According to Katarzyna Nowak, the police detained four people and seized the synthetic drug, fentanyl, but proceedings are still "ongoing."

Four people have already died in Poland due to taking fentanyl, three in February in Zuromin, Mazowieckie province, and one in the west-central city of Poznan at the end of 2023.

From the beginning of 2024, the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) has recorded 48 cases of fentanyl poisoning in the country.

On June 17 the health ministry introduced a system of monitoring prescriptions for fentanyl and other opioid drugs. (PAP)
