Marcin Kierwinski, who before becoming interior minister was the government's representative for flood recovery, said on Monday that the assistance was allocated through nearly 30 measures. In his view, never before in the history of Poland's natural disasters state aid had been so vast or comprehensive.

Deputy Interior Minister Magdalena Roguska specified that individual residents of the flood-stricken regions received over PLN 1 billion (EUR 240 million) in direct benefits, including renovation and construction assistance benefits which allowed residents to start drying their homes and plan renovations as quickly as possible.

"Local communities have received over PLN 960 million (EUR 226 mln) to conduct more than 550 development projects," she said, adding that the sum was topped with PLN 738 million (EUR 174 mln) as compensation for flood-related losses.

In September 2024, regions in south-western Poland were devastated by flooding caused by heavy rainfall generated by Storm Boris, which hit Central and Eastern Europe.(PAP)
