Frederik X started his stay in the capital by becoming the first foreign head of state to visit to the Polish History Museum, which the museum's director described as a "huge honour and privilege."

The Danish King is in Poland between January 31 and February 2, his first foreign trip since acceding to the throne earlier in January following his mother's abdication. At the museum, King Frederik took part in the opening of a business forum.

During the opening, the king described climate change as an "extremely important topic."

"We see how the possibilities of energy and new technologies can affect the future, the coming generations," he said. "This visit is aimed at showing what changes we can make to use more renewable energy sources and how to influence responsible production methods and consumer behaviour."

He said these things provided an "exceptional opportunity" for cooperation between Poland and Denmark, including in business.

Emphasising that Poland and Denmark had worked together for a long time on such issues, he said that in the coming days he wanted to extend that cooperation, "especially in the context of developing decarbonisation strategies."

After the opening, King Frederik was received by Poland's president, Andrzej Duda, at the Presidential Palace. In the afternoon he will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before moving on the lower house of parliament, the Sejm, to meet Speaker Szymon Holownia and Senate Speaker Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska.

The Danish monarch will later sign a bilateral agreement on energy efficiency, Polish Radio reported. The king is being accompanied by a business delegation, which is primarily interested in energy efficiency, climate-friendly agriculture, and biogas, according to the Danish embassy. (PAP)
