Paulina Hennig-Kloska said that the specific locations were especially precious nature habitats with forests that also had a significant social impact.

The areas total nearly 1.5 percent of the entire forest areas managed by the State Forests governmental organisation.

Hennig-Kloska added that the decision was an emergency measure and that the ministry was working on a systemic solution that would cover a larger number of forest areas and that it would consult foresters, local governments and local communities.

Poland has been, in the past, accused of failing to protect its natural habitats and having poor forest management plans. (PAP)
