On Monday, Polish President-elect Karol Nawrocki announced that Zbigniew Bogucki, an MP for the socially-conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, which endorsed Nawrocki during his presidential campaign, would assume the role of head of the President's Office.

When asked by the privately-held broadcaster Polsat News on Tuesday about future cooperation between the President's Office and the current centrist coalition government led by Donald Tusk, Bogucki said that it would likely be "not easy."

In his view, Tusk's recent comments could be interpreted as disregarding the constitutional reality that it was the president who made the ultimate step when introducing any legislative changes in Poland.

"We will certainly abide by the constitution. The President will fulfil what he announced during his presidential campaign," Bogucki said and added that the first presidential legislative initiatives had been already prepared.

According to Nawrocki's announcements, he intends to unveil his legislative initiatives the day after he is sworn into office on August 6.

In the past, Nawrocki been vocally critical of Tusk, labelling him as "the worst Polish prime minister since 1989." (PAP)wpb/jch
