New Polish president set to meet with Hungarian PM
A meeting between President Karol Nawrocki and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is planned to take place "soon", presidential spokesperson has told PAP.
Orban announced on social media on Thursday that his government "will begin rebuilding Polish-Hungarian cooperation," adding that the green light to resume joint activities had been given to his minister by Nawrocki.
A day earlier, Hungarian Minister for European Union Affairs Janos Boka concluded his visit to Poland and met with presidential aide Jacek Saryusz-Wolski during the Economic Forum in Karpacz, southern Poland.
On Monday, Polish president's spokesman Rafal Leskiewicz said during an interview with PAP that "Polish-Hungarian relations are extremely important to us," and a meeting between the Polish president and Hungarian prime minister is planned and "will likely take place soon" but that he could not say when as there are yet no firm arrangements between the two.
Asked about Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto's presence at the Wednesday parade in Beijing, along with Russian, Belarusian and North Korean leaders, Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, and Kim Jong-Un, Leskiewicz said that in his opinion "this is certainly not good company."
But, he added that this was the internal policy of the Hungarian government and he would not comment on how this policy is being conducted as "it is not an issue that directly concerns Poland and Poles."
"President Karol Nawrocki would certainly not align himself with the leader of the Russian Federation, the criminal Vladimir Putin, especially since Putin is prosecuting President Karol Nawrocki for destroying Soviet propaganda facilities (in Poland - PAP), Leskiewicz said.(PAP)mmr/mf
